Sarah Gibson and Nicholas Karlovasitis have designed the August Collection, which includes an armchair and a sofa.

The collection, created for brand DesignByThem and made in Australia, has a very strong geometric design that’s accentuated by the use of decorative edge stitching.

Nicholas Karlovasitis explains the overall form by sharing, “The August Collection initially began with a number of small sketches of intersecting colors, shapes and blocks…These blocks then began to slowly transform into the primary forms that would go on to become the August range.”

When discussing the stitching detail, which is optional, Sarah Gibson says, “A fundamental part of the design is to highlight and exaggerate how the aesthetic and any decorative elements are driven by the function of its assembly and construction. The fabric and blanket stitching detail became integral to achieving a soft yet crisp form. The element is made through the assembly and construction of the piece.”
